When schnauzer lovers meet schnauzers out and about, we think, "oooooh. A schnauzer! I love him!" There are a few dogs that generate a response like, "ooooooh a schnauzer! He's just stunning!"
That's Bo and he's ready for his forever home. He is a beautiful chocolate-colored 20 lb. 7-year-old schnauzer in Tennessee. He came to SLR when his loving owner entered a nursing home and her family couldn’t care for him. Of course, he’s neutered, up to date on all vaccines and house-trained. He’s especially handsome and a great cuddler; he absolutely adores his people and follows them around.
He was fine with kids in his original home but not a fan of cats. He could go to a home with other dogs if they are easy-going. Since he mainly doesn’t interact with them, he’d be great as an only dog. Bo is house-trained, crate-trained and does very well on a leash. He loves green beans and chin rubs. He’s not a big fan of car rides, but rides OK. Bo learned how to use the doggie door in his foster home very quickly. He also catches treats in his mouth like a circus dog and has learned a few commands. He’s super smart and learns quickly.
At first he is a bit shy, and has never met a human he did not like. At bedtime, he understands the routine and happily heads to the bedroom, where he enjoys sleeping in his dog bed right by the human bed. He has his favorite toys and carries them around; can you say SO CUTE! Bo loves to explore the fenced backyard; he’s not a runner or a digger, and is patient during grooming.
Bo has a history of seizures and they are controlled by a medication he takes twice a day. (note, this is a generic drug that can be purchased for about $21 for a 3-month supply) His vet checks his levels via a blood test every few months, and can adjust his medication accordingly.
If you are looking for a super sweet, cuddly, beautiful, happy little schnauzer, Bo might be your fella. He would prefer a fenced yard but might be OK without if someone is home with him a lot. He’d also prefer a home as the only dog, but he’ll consider a home with another super sweet other dog. Mainly, he needs a loving pet parent who is committed to his medical care to ensure he is seizure free and can live his best schnauzer life.
