My brother, ‘Sammy,’ and I are very thankful to SLR for taking us into their wonderful rescue and allowing us to stay together in our foster home in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. Our mom passed away and no one realized it for a few days so we were left alone to comfort each other during that sad time. We are so thankful that we are together and that we will be adopted together. We love each other and will groom each other during the day to show our affection and strong bond that we have.
My name is ‘Pepper.’ I am an 8 year old female. I am salt & pepper, have cropped ears and a docked tail. I weigh 21 lbs. Foster mom says I am very sweet. She laughs when we watch tv together and I run up to the tv to bark at something I find interesting. I am not fond of loud noises. Foster mom gave me a thunder shirt to wear when we celebrated the 4th of July. She also gave me a little pill to help me stay calm – it worked! I am friendly with all ages (foster mom has grandchildren and I love when they visit). I am leash trained and have free roam when foster mom has to run errands. I have had occasional accidents in the house but have really improved. I will run to the door when foster mom says ‘Go Potty!’
My brother, ‘Sammy’ is also salt & pepper, has cropped ears and a docked tail. He weighs 27 lbs. We have many of the same characteristics – friendly with all ages, good with foster’s dog, will run to the door when he hears the magic words – ‘Go Potty.’ At the beginning he had some accidents in the house but has gotten so much better now that he has relaxed some. It has taken ‘Sammy’ a little longer to decompress and to not feel so anxious. He is very shy and needs lots of love and assurance to know that he is safe. In the beginning, ’Sammy’ felt the safest in our foster mom’s bedroom. This was his comfort zone and was given some meds to help with his anxiety. ‘Sammy’ has to be on a special food as he has crystals in his urine.
Foster mom says no condo or apartment living for us. We would love a fenced yard, someone who is home most of the time, a family that will be patient and understanding about our past experience that we endured and that will shower us with that extra love we so deserve.
