Brownie2
If you are interested in Brownie, please complete an online application first. Once you have had a phone interview, you may contact foster mom, Michelle, for more information at mmccror1@gmail.com.
Brownie is a five year old male that came to SLR as an owner surrender being fostered in Knoxville, TN. He has juvenile cataracts and the owners could not afford the surgery. He also has a dominant personality and because of this, was aggressive towards his brother.

Brownie9aBrownie is neutered, heart worm negative, and up to date on shots and heart worm and flea preventative. He weighs around 20 lbs and is liver and cream colored. Brownie has juvenile cataracts and neurological issues and through the rescue has been able to see both an ophthalmologist and a neurologist.

It is believed that Brownie has had his cataracts since birth and because of this, he is not a candidate for surgery. He also has some neurological issues that cause him to have awkward eye movements and walk/run in circles. He had blood work, an MRI, and a spinal tap performed which all came back normal and it is believed that his neurological issues are due to a traumatic event from his puppy years. We do not know if Brownie can see or how much, but he has adapted well and has a great quality of life.

Brownie came to his foster home with little training, but things have improved dramatically. He is mostly house-trained and does okay if he is given enough time outside to do his business. He does well on a leash, but tends to make big circles around his person and a harness is preferred. He does growl and bark at other dogs and people walking by, but a squirt with a water bottle will calm him down. He will need more work on this, but he is highly trainable.

Brownie can come off as aggressive at first, but due to his sight, he is very intimidated which causes the fear aggression. He needs someone that will give him time and patience to show them what a truly amazing and sweet boy he is. Once he realizes he is safe, he turns into a cuddle-bug and just wants his belly rubbed. He has lots of energy and loves to play. Brownie7
He does need to be a one dog, no children household, as things that startle him may cause him to growl and snap. Previous schnauzer experience is preferred.

We do believe that Brownie has had a rough past, but thanks to SLR we know he will have a wonderful future.
